I'M DEBORAH NELL

I have been painting and drawing as long as I can remember. I'm a native of Southern California and the oldest of five siblings. I moved to East Berlin, Pennsylvania in 1998 with my husband and daughter Sophia. I live in a straw bale house built by my husband, myself and our daughter along with the help of friends and family. I'm the proud grandmother of four grandchildren.

My first art teacher was my father who taught me how to paint portraits in oil from photos. I was eight years old when he began teaching me. I loved that special one-on-one time with my Dad. Today I co-create with my Heavenly Father as I invite the Holy Spirit into my creative process. Sometimes I look for images in the paint and bring those out. Sometimes I have a photo as a reference.

I love combining abstract backgrounds with realism. I use acrylic ink, acrylic paint and spray paint in the first layers. I then finish my paintings in oil. The oil layer brings a depth and richness that gives them more life. I paint on stretched canvas and sometimes Yupo paper. I love painting women, children, lions, horses and Jesus. I want to capture what is pure, joyful and lovely.

I also paint personal prophetic paintings for individuals and couples. I pray before I start and ask the Lord to give me an image for that person or persons. He always does. After the painting is finished I type up a description and message for the recipient that explains and the meaning of the painting. These prophetic paintings have always resonated with their new owners. The word prophetic means message from God. He truly speaks to others through these prophetic paintings.

I have Bachelor Degree in Design from the Fine Art Department at UCLA, 1981. I have a Certificate from the Milan Art Institute for completing their one year Mastery Program, 2022. I am a prolific painter with artwork that has been purchased in the United States, Australia, Canada and Europe.
